Privacy Policy

Last Updated: October 24, 2025

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how BudgetMan, operated by David Cornelson ("we," "us," or "our"), collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our Service.

Privacy is fundamental to BudgetMan's design. Unlike traditional web applications, BudgetMan stores all your financial data in your personal cloud storage, not on our servers.

2. Information We DO NOT Collect or Store

BudgetMan is specifically designed to NOT collect or store your financial information. The following data remains exclusively in your personal cloud storage:

  • Transaction data: All imported transactions from CSV files
  • Budget information: Your budget plans, actual spending, and goals
  • Account details: Bank account names, balances, or identifiers
  • Categorization rules: Your auto-tagging rules and patterns
  • Reports and analytics: Generated reports and spending insights
  • CSV files: Original import files you upload
  • Any other financial data: Everything stays in your cloud storage

We have no access to this data. It is stored in your Google Drive's application data folder, which only you and the BudgetMan application (with your explicit permission) can access.

3. Information We DO Collect

We collect minimal personal information necessary to operate the Service:

3.1 Email Address

We collect and store your email address for:

  • License validation and subscription management
  • Sending important service notifications
  • Customer support communications
  • Delivery of license keys for paid subscriptions

3.2 Payment Information

Payment information (credit card details, billing address) is collected and processed exclusively by Paddle.com Market Limited, our payment processor. We never see or store your payment information.

3.3 Usage Analytics (No Personal Data)

We may collect aggregated, anonymous usage statistics such as:

  • Application version numbers
  • Feature usage frequency (e.g., "% of users who use CSV import")
  • Performance metrics (e.g., "average load time")
  • Error reports (no personal data included)

These analytics help us improve the Service but contain no personally identifiable information or financial data.

3.4 Google OAuth Tokens

When you authenticate with Google, we receive an OAuth access token that allows the application to access your Google Drive's application data folder. This token is:

  • Stored locally in your browser only
  • Never transmitted to our servers
  • Used exclusively for syncing your database file
  • Automatically refreshed by Google's OAuth system

4. How We Use Your Information

We use your email address to:

  • Validate your license and subscription status
  • Send transactional emails (purchase confirmations, license keys)
  • Communicate important service updates or security issues
  • Respond to support requests

We will never:

  • Sell your email address to third parties
  • Send unsolicited marketing emails (unless you opt in)
  • Share your information except as described in this policy

5. Data Storage and Security

5.1 Your Financial Data

All financial data is stored in your Google Drive account in the application data folder. This folder is:

  • Hidden from your normal Drive file list
  • Accessible only to BudgetMan and you
  • Protected by Google's security infrastructure
  • Subject to Google's privacy policy and terms of service

You can delete this data at any time by revoking BudgetMan's access in your Google account settings.

5.2 Email Addresses and License Data

We store email addresses and license information in a secure database hosted on CloudFlare's infrastructure. This data is:

  • Encrypted in transit (TLS/HTTPS)
  • Encrypted at rest
  • Accessible only to authorized systems
  • Backed up regularly

6. Third-Party Services

6.1 Google Drive

BudgetMan uses Google Drive API to store your database file. Your use of Google Drive is subject to Google's Privacy Policy. We request only the minimum necessary permissions (access to application data folder only, not your entire Drive).

6.2 Paddle (Payment Processor)

All payment processing is handled by Paddle.com Market Limited. Paddle collects and processes payment information according to their privacy policy. They handle:

  • Credit card information
  • Billing addresses
  • Tax calculations and compliance
  • Subscription management

6.3 CloudFlare

We use CloudFlare for hosting and serverless functions (license validation). CloudFlare may collect technical information such as IP addresses for security and performance purposes.

7. Your Rights and Choices

7.1 Access and Deletion

You have the right to:

  • Request a copy of your email and license information we store
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Revoke Google Drive access at any time
  • Export your financial data (stored in your Google Drive)

7.2 Data Portability

Since your financial data is stored in your Google Drive as a SQLite database, you can:

  • Download the database file at any time
  • Use third-party tools to read the SQLite format
  • Export to CSV or JSON using BudgetMan's export features

7.3 Marketing Communications

If you opt in to marketing emails, you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in the email footer.

8. Data Retention

Email and license data: We retain this information as long as you have an active account or subscription, plus 90 days after cancellation for record-keeping.

Financial data: Stored in your Google Drive indefinitely or until you delete it. We have no control over this data's retention.

9. International Data Transfers

Your email address may be processed in data centers operated by CloudFlare worldwide. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for international data transfers.

10. Children's Privacy

BudgetMan is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact us immediately.

11. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

  • Right to know what personal information is collected
  • Right to know if personal information is sold (we do not sell data)
  • Right to delete personal information
  • Right to non-discrimination for exercising your rights

To exercise these rights, contact us at support@budgetman.app.

12. European Privacy Rights (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

  • Right to access your personal data
  • Right to rectification of inaccurate data
  • Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten")
  • Right to restrict processing
  • Right to data portability
  • Right to object to processing

Our legal basis for processing your email address is contractual necessity (to provide the Service) and legitimate interest (to prevent fraud and ensure security).

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.

Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

15. Summary

What we collect: Your email address only.

What we DON'T collect: All your financial data (transactions, budgets, accounts, etc.) stays in your Google Drive.

Why it's different: Most budgeting apps store your data on their servers. BudgetMan stores it in YOUR cloud storage, giving you complete control and ownership.
